Sterling, VA is a relatively new community but we have an amazing array of local attractions to visit. For locals and tourists alike, there is a lot to see and do in our area. We have listed some of our favorites, and they are just the tip of the iceberg as we have so many different experiences for you to enjoy. Manassas National Battlefield Park These peaceful fields have previously resounded to the sounds of cannon and gunfire as the armies of the United States and the Confederacy twice clashed here during the Civil War. This is the site of the First and Second Battles of Manassas, and many of the pivotal features of the battles remain. The park covers over 5000 acres of countryside, and you can explore most of the important sites of the battles on hiking trails and driving tours. more There is a visitors center where you can view maps of the battles and also watch a movie that puts the battles into perspective. The center also has a gift shop with numerous books and other memorabilia. The park is located at 6511 Sudley Road and is free to enter. It is open daily, except for major holidays, from dusk to dawn. Steven F Udvar-Hazy Center Just south of Sterling, at 14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly this center contains two massive hangers that are filled with famous aircraft. When you enter the hangers, you can't help but gape in awe at the spectacular sights. The B29 Superfortress "Enola Gay", the Space Shuttle "Discovery", and numerous other aircraft are perfectly preserved and either hanging from the ceiling or parked on the hangar floor. In the Mary Barker Engen Restoration Hanger, you can watch technicians reconstructing and repairing rare artifacts, or try out one of the flight simulators.
