Does Your Chevy Need New Headlights?
Get new headlights in Sterling at your local Chevy dealership, Ted Britt Chevrolet! Problems with visibility lead to a great many road accidents after dark. It's always worth making sure your headlights are shining as brightly as possible. Let's take a look at five indicators that tell you when it's time to visit your local Chevy dealer for a pair of new headlights. Your Bulbs Begin to Fade There are three main types of headlight bulb, which tend to fade at varying rates. Firstly, you have old-fashioned halogen bulbs, which have a shorter lifespan but maintain near-maximum brightness until the day they fail. more On the other hand, longer-lasting, high-intensity discharge (HID) bulbs and light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs begin to dim as they age. In fact, both HID and LED bulbs can lose up to 70 percent of their brightness before they die. So if you use HID or LED bulbs and you find it's getting harder to see the road ahead at night, then your headlights are probably fading. It's time for replacements. What Type of Bulb Are You Using? Many drivers are unsure which of the three bulb types their vehicle uses. This is often the case when you haven't yet had to change your bulbs since initially purchasing the car. Fortunately, there are two easy ways to find out which bulb type you have. To start, park your car facing a wall or garage door. Set the engine to idle and turn on your headlamps. If they cast a warm yellow color, then they're halogen bulbs. Both HID and LED bulbs cast a bright white light. The difference between the two is that LED bulbs instantly shine at full brightness when turned on. Whereas HID bulbs flash for a few seconds and then slowly build to peak brightness. Your Headlights Are Flickering Whichever type of bulb you use, a clear sign of trouble is flickering light. While flickering might be caused by problems in the connections or wiring, it's most commonly caused by a loose filament in the bulb itself. That bulb is on its last legs and needs to go. One of Your Bulbs Dies If both of your headlights suddenly fail at the same time, then the source of the problem probably lies with your battery or electrical circuits. But if a single bulb dies, it's more likely that the bulb itself gave out. And when one bulb goes, it's good practice to replace both at once because the second of the pair is rarely far behind. Your Bulbs Near the End of Their Lifespan It pays to know the expected lifespan of your headlight bulbs, and roughly how many miles you've driven since you bought them. That way you'll know more of less when it's time for replacements, and you won't be taken by surprise. Halogen bulbs generally last for only 500 to 1,000 miles. HID bulbs can last anywhere from 2,000 to 8,000 miles. And LED bulbs can keep on shining for an impressive 30,000 miles. To know for sure, look up the expected lifespan for your specific type and make of bulb. Your Chevy Dealer Suggests Replacements During your regular servicing visits, the technicians at your local dealership will examine the circuitry and bulbs of your headlamps. If they find that your bulbs are near to giving up the ghost, they'll let you know it's time for a new pair. To have your headlights inspected, repaired, or replaced by certified technicians, visit Ted Britt Chevrolet. 3 Keys to Finding a Quality Transmission Repair
Your transmission is one of the most complex systems in your car. It's filled with hundreds of constantly moving parts, and the transmission works continuously as you drive. Although the transmission is very strong, parts can wear out. When you need a transmission repair, your Chevy dealer is the first and best choice. These are the reasons why you'll find a quality repair with us. Expertise All of our technicians are highly trained and certified by Chevrolet. Our technicians only work on CDJR vehicles. This knowledge and experience make them experts at diagnosing and fixing your transmission. They can identify potential problems quickly and repair and refit components faster than a general mechanic. This combination of speed and expertise means your car will spend less time in our service department and more time on the road where it should be. Faster repairs also save you money. more A general mechanic works on numerous makes and models of vehicles. Even the best general mechanic, however, can never have the knowledge and experience of our specialist technicians. A general mechanic will understandably take longer to diagnose and repair a Chevy, and the diagnosis may also not be as accurate. Quality Parts Our Chevy dealership uses Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts from Chevrolet. These parts are identical to the ones that were originally used to build your car. Your Chevy's designers and engineers built your vehicle to a high standard and specification. Using OEM parts ensures that this standard of quality is maintained. Generic parts may sometimes be slightly cheaper, but they are not made to the same level of quality. Generic parts will also not last as long as originals. General mechanics will, as a rule, use generic parts. They are much easier and quicker to source for a non-dealer. As mentioned, these parts will never match the quality of OEM ones, and they will also not last as long. A general mechanic who uses OEM parts will take longer to get them, and the parts will cost more. This will be reflected in your repair bill. High Standards Our technicians meet and subscribe to the high standards set by Chevrolet. Our work and customer service are geared to maintaining the high standards you expect and deserve from Chevrolet. This commitment is even more important when your transmission is being repaired. The work is particularly complex, and if it's not completed to the highest possible standard, there's the possibility that a mistake could happen. A general mechanic may not reach or offer the same care, attention, and workmanship that you need. The quality will be lower and will not match our experts' rigorous standards. If you have a problem with your transmission, you expect that repair work will be of the highest quality. As your dealer in Sterling, VA we can guarantee that the work and quality meet the standard you expect and deserve. Call our service department today at Ted Britt Chevrolet. 6 Benefits of Getting a Tire Rotation for Your Chevy at Your Chevy Dealer
A tire rotation involves switching each tire to a different position on your car to ensure the tires wear down evenly, making them last longer and saving you loads of cash. To get the maximum life out of your Chevy's tires, get your tires rotated at your Chevy dealer every 7,500 miles or every time you take your car for an oil change. 1. Maximize the Life of Your Tires When your car's tires are rotated every 7,500 miles or six months, or every time the oil is changed, your tires will last longer. Your Chevy technician will swap the tires on your car to different positions. By repositioning all four tires, the tires will wear down at an equal rate and maximize the life of your tires. Check your owner's manual for the rotation intervals and patterns for your specific model and year, or speak to your Chevy technician for assistance. more 2. Ensure the Treads Wear Evenly The tread on each tire wears at different rates. If you drive a front-wheel-drive car, the front tires used for steering, turning, and braking will wear down faster than the rear tires. Tires that are swapped to different positions regularly will wear down evenly, ensuring that the tires on your car last longer. The correct rotations patterns for your Chevy are in your owner's manual, but your Chevy technician will also know what the rotations patterns are for your specific vehicle. 3. Save Money on Tire Replacements Yes, saving money is always great news. When you ask your Chevy technician to switch your tires regularly, even wear occurs across all four tires. Because the tires wear down at the same rate, they will last longer, and you will not have to replace the entire set as often, saving you money. 4. Enjoy a Smoother Ride When the treads on your tires wear unevenly, it causes vibrations that you will feel through your steering wheel. Over time, the vibrations will affect your car's wheel alignment and balancing and could even cause damage to vehicle components. When you regularly switch your vehicle's tires, it reduces uneven wear and limits vibrations, ensuring that you enjoy a smoother ride. 5. Increase Your Safety on the Road The regular repositioning of a car's tires will ensure even wear, and when the tread depth on all the tires is the same, you will have plenty of traction for safe cornering and braking. Good treads will also improve the overall handling on wet and icy road surfaces, keeping you safe in all weather conditions. 6. Reliable Tire Inspections Every time you take your car for an oil change, your Chevy technician will rotate the tires. Each tire will be thoroughly inspected for wear and damage. The tread depth will be checked, and each tire will be inspected for bulges and cracks. Your car's tires will also be inflated to the correct tire pressure levels, reducing your vehicle's fuel consumption. If you ask your Chevy technician to rotate your tires at regular intervals, you will save money on gas and be safer on the road. Routinely switching your car's tires holds many benefits, from saving you money and optimizing your vehicle's performance to ensuring your safety on the road. Contact Ted Britt Chevrolet today and schedule a rotation. Our qualified Chevy technicians will swap your vehicle's tires, ensuring they last longer, saving you money. Image courtesy of Pixabay.com

6 Signs Your Chevy Needs a Radiator Repair at Your Sterling Dealership
The cooling system in your car consists of a water pump, a thermostat, and a radiator to keep the engine and components cool and to prevent overheating. A faulty radiator will cause damage to the engine and other crucial components. Below are signs that will alert you when to get a radiator repair at your Chevy dealer before you have to fork out a whole lot of cash on expensive repairs. 1. Low Coolant and Leaks When you suddenly have to top off the coolant more often, there might be a coolant leak. Check for bright green, orange, yellow, or pink puddles under your car. If your vehicle is leaking coolant, it might be a loose or damaged hose. Your Chevrolet technician will quickly determine where the leak is coming from and fix the problem before it leads to engine damage. more 2. Your Car Is Overheating When there is a problem with your car's cooling system, such as low fluid levels and leaks, the temperature gauge's needle will rise. A faulty thermostat that doesn't release the correct amount of fluid can also cause your car to overheat. If your vehicle overheats when it's idling, the culprit could be a broken or malfunctioning radiator fan. A faulty radiator fan will not pull enough air into the radiator to cool it down, and that's why your car is overheating. 3. Your Radiator Is Rusty Rust can cause severe damage. Holes will form, causing leaks that will lead to overheating. If the coolant is a brownish color, it's contaminated with rust, and over time it will cause your radiator to fail. If you notice rust, you need to ask your Chevrolet technician to inspect your radiator ASAP before more damage occurs. 4. The Radiator Is Clogged If you see a thick sludge inside your car's radiator, it means the radiator is clogged. The sludge will prevent the correct amount of coolant from flowing through to the engine. If not enough coolant run through the system, your car will overheat. 5. The Radiator Fins are Blocked or Damaged The radiator fins become blocked with insects, leaves, and road dirt as you drive. Stones and high water pressure can damage the fins. If the radiator fins are blocked or damaged, not enough air flows through to reduce the temperature of the hot coolant, resulting in your vehicle overheating. 6. There Is Smoke From Under the Hood or Exhaust Leaking coolant will cause white smoke to come out of the exhaust. If you see white smoke, check your vehicle's coolant levels. If the coolant is low, it's best to ask your technician to check your radiator. If you see smoke pouring out from under the hood, the radiator might be struggling to keep the engine cool. Pull over in a safe spot as soon as possible and wait for your car to cool down. Phone your dealership and ask for assistance. When your car is overheating, it's a typical sign of radiator problems. Ask your Chevrolet technician to perform a radiator inspection to determine what is causing the problem ASAP if you experience any signs. Contact Ted Britt Chevrolet today, and our qualified Chevrolet technicians will ensure that your radiator is in top condition.
