Enjoy viewing art at some local art places in Sterling.
Although local museums are always part of a vacation itinerary, sometimes we forget to take the time to explore the art in our own town. Sterling, VA has plenty of unique and talented artists worth knowing. But where do you start when you want to discover the local art scene here? There are many ways to get involved, but here are just four of our favorites.
1. Head to Galleries and Museums
Find the institutions right in the city center dedicated to showcasing local artists. The Global Art & Design Gallery in Dulles Town Center regularly hosts shows and exhibitions featuring local work. Just out by the airport, the Blue Moon Gallery is a modern space featuring and selling a range of local talent in exhibitions and fun events.
Look out on the street for other small galleries, they’ll often host openings for new artists. Local cafes and venues will often hang local work on the walls, so keep your eyes peeled there too.
2. Discover Local Street Art
Removing art from formal museums, street art is becoming a common way for cities to show off the talented artists that live there. From colorful building facades to temporary chalk drawing on the sidewalk, there’s plenty to find just by taking to the streets and wandering. Or, buckle everyone up in your roomy 2022 Chevy Silverado with huge amounts of legroom, to take a comfortable spin around town.
If you find any piece you like, scan the work for a name or contact details. You can then find this local artist to see more of their work in the future.
3. Go to the Markets and Art Fairs
Keep an eye out for Sterling art events that will let you discover the crafts and arts made by those in the area. You don’t have to head far. Around Christmas, the Old Town Manassas Christmas Fair and Holiday Art Show is a great event to check out. Over 60 artists and businesses gather to show off their products and designs.
In October, you can attend the Capital Craft Fair at Dulles Expo Center. For three days, this fair will allow you to explore the work of over 200 local artists as they gather to sell their unique pieces as collections and gifts.
4. Use the Internet
So many art sites can be sorted by location, so using the internet can be a great way to locate and buy products from artists who are just down the road from you.
This makes it as easy as a few clicks of a button to find the art scene around you. You don’t even need to leave the house! Websites such as ArtStation and Artsy are great options to discover art by area and find creators close to you,
