Sterling, VA is a relatively new community but we have an amazing array of local attractions to visit. For locals and tourists alike, there is a lot to see and do in our area. We have listed some of our favorites, and they are just the tip of the iceberg as we have so many different experiences for you to enjoy.

Manassas National Battlefield Park

These peaceful fields have previously resounded to the sounds of cannon and gunfire as the armies of the United States and the Confederacy twice clashed here during the Civil War. This is the site of the First and Second Battles of Manassas,  and many of the pivotal features of the battles remain. The park covers over 5000 acres of countryside, and you can explore most of the important sites of the battles on hiking trails and driving tours.

There is a visitors center where you can view maps of the battles and also watch a movie that puts the battles into perspective. The center also has a gift shop with numerous books and other memorabilia. The park is located at 6511 Sudley Road and is free to enter. It is open daily, except for major holidays, from dusk to dawn.

Steven F Udvar-Hazy Center

Just south of Sterling, at 14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly this center contains two massive hangers that are filled with famous aircraft. When you enter the hangers, you can’t help but gape in awe at the spectacular sights. The B29 Superfortress “Enola Gay”, the Space Shuttle “Discovery”, and numerous other aircraft are perfectly preserved and either hanging from the ceiling or parked on the hangar floor.

The center hosts numerous exhibitions including the Cold War, Applications Sattelites, Busines Aviation, and others. In the Mary Barker Engen Restoration Hanger, you can watch technicians reconstructing and repairing rare artifacts, or try out one of the flight simulators. There is also an Imax theater, and a museum shop with a huge range of curios and mementos to choose from. Entrance is free, and they are open daily from 10 am to 5.30 pm.

Sportrock Climbing Center

If you are adventurous and energetic, look no further than a visit to this center. Located at 45935 Maries Road, Sportrock is the perfect venue for the whole family. Climbing classes are available from beginner to advanced level and there is also an option for private instruction. When you have had enough climbing, they also have fitness and yoga classes.

The instructors are friendly, encouraging, and very knowledgeable. For all-around healthy family fun be sure to visit Sportrock.
