When you purchase a vehicle at your local Chevy dealer, you might know that you’ll get a warranty for your vehicle. But are you aware of the fine details of that warranty? It’s important to know what the warranty covers, how long it lasts, and other details so that you don’t end up paying for things out of pocket that you actually have protection for! Keep reading to see what’s covered under your car warranty.
Bumper-to-Bumper Coverage
Your basic Chevrolet warranty comes with bumper-to-bumper coverage, which essentially means that any mechanical or electronic parts that are originally installed by Chevrolet will be covered. While Chevy has scrutinous quality control procedures at each of its factories, some things might still pass through. So if you notice that there’s anything wrong with your car, it’s probably able to be repaired or replaced under your warranty.
One great thing about Chevy’s warranty that sets it apart from many other manufacturers’ warranties is that you have coverage for your tires! Typically, these aren’t covered as tire wear is an expected part of owning and operating a motor vehicle. But with Chevy, you can get your tires replaced if they’re defective!
3 Years of Coverage
Probably the most important thing to keep in mind about your Chevy warranty is that it covers you for a limited time. This timeframe is 3 years or 36,000 miles. So if you’re someone who drives a lot, you may run out of warranty coverage sooner than someone who has their car sitting in their garage a lot of the time. So, if it’s been about three years since you bought the vehicle, verify the date of purchase.
Extended Powertrain Coverage
Not everyone knows what their powertrain is, but it’s actually the most crucial part of any vehicle! The powertrain is actually what lets you drive down the road, and it includes your engine, the transmission and transaxle, the transfer case, drive systems, and diesel components. Under the Chevy warranty, these are all covered for a period of 5 years or 60,000 miles.
That being said, there are some limits to this extended coverage. Wheel bearings, lines, hoses, electrical connectors, sensors, wiring, radiators, locking hubs, and hub bearings are not covered, even though they may be related to the drive system.
Even Greater Coverage for Certain Vehicles
Chevy is doing its part to encourage consumers to choose electric vehicles or hybrids, and part of that is by providing a truly fantastic warranty with them. The Chevrolet Volt, the Malibu Hybrid, and the Bolt EV are all covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles!
